KAWS

The newest issue of i-D Magazine has been impressively curated by legendary graffiti artist, KAWS. The Jersey City-born, street-art icon was commissioned by i-D to not only curate the content of their most recent issue but to also treat the entire magazine as his personal sketch book leaving nothing sacred or off limits. His characters and words peer from behind Stussy ads or tug the arm of an aloof model to pull her into the next page highlighting the interesting trajectory of his career; a theme also touched on in the short documentary that is viewable on the i-D site. In the documentary he speaks of how his initial approach to art and graffiti was to hijack corporate advertising and make it his own by physically defacing them in the actual marketplace but now he ironically finds himself being paid to design ads for those same companies years later. Definitely an interesting project if you are familiar with KAWS but also a great way to make the introduction.
