Art Container

The Chanel Contemporary Art Container will be touching down in Central Park on October 20th for the 3rd stop of a 6 city tour that includes Hong Kong, Tokyo, Moscow, London and ends with a grand finale in Paris. The “container”, Zaha Hadid’s architectural masterpiece, is designed to house a 20 artist exhibition celebrating all the nuances that embody Chanel’s “emblematic quilted bag”. The structure is built and dismantled in each city only to be shipped then rebuilt again and again until it eventually reaches the birthplace of the Chanel fashion house in 2010. While each piece of this project dazzles in it’s own right, the true scale of this traveling fashion monument is better contemplated as one giant piece rather than the sum of it’s components. The whole production aims to embody a grand metaphor for the life of a Chanel bag expressed through it’s construction, contents, the amazing roster of contemporary artists that are contributing to the design, as well as it’s iconic place in every major fashion market. A true integration of art and commerce and probably one of the most expensive marketing campaigns in history.
