2010 BICYCLE FILM FESTIVAL.
Kicking off here in New York, is the tenth annual Bicycle Film Festival. Brendt Barbur, the founding festival director, started the event after a bike accident in New York with hopes of turning his negative experience into a positive one. Celebrating the bike culture movement, the bash brings all two-wheelin’ enthusiasts together through the wonderful medium of art, music and film. BOOZE, BROADS & BARBERSHOP CHORDS.

And that pretty much sums it up. Like America (the band) meeting Kraftwerk through the static that lies between two pirate radio stations, DJANGO DJANGO’s lush harmonies and bubbly synths are not the easiest things to define with lazy comparisons. With that being said, their myspace headline will have to do.
IN FLAGRANTI’S DISCO UNICORN FETISH FANTASY.

In our pornographic, disco-unicorn-fetish fantasies we actually are In Flagranti. All 9 of us clad in animal skin, powdered like donuts, and baying at a giant disco ball like a turgid pagan moon. But in reality, we have to put on the record and stare at the album cover just like everyone else. Not the worst thing ever, but if somehow we could trade it all in to live out our Never-Ending-Story-meets-Larry-Levan- in-a-pile-of-illicit-substances fantasy and still hold down a life, then you know…..we probably would. Til then, check out In Flagranti’s amazing albums and their covers out on Codek Records.
MR. KOTTER GETS A BALEARIC TAN.

All bets are off in the “Best Way to Release a Swedish Pop Song” competition as your favorite summer band’s favorite summer band, jj, just applied a Balearic sheen to the Welcome Back Kotter theme song. The cover is packaged together with a dripping slo mo video of tennis stars in pre serve anticipation and available for free from the Tough Alliance’s Sincerely Yours website. Welcome back! Read on

12 MINUTES OF BALEARIC-NESS.

Here in WMIG land we have a massive, collective boner for everything that Acephale’ Records tells us we should be into, and in all reality, who can argue with Patrik North’s track record: SLU Records, Tough Alliance, he tipped us off on the hole Banjii girl scene that was happening in our own city, Salem and the list goes on and on. So, when the dude throws 2 videos your way that were created as companion pieces for Memory Cassettes newest E.P. you know you’ve got at least 12 minutes of solid Belearic entertainment. Get more info HERE and watch the videos after the jump. Read on
Grace Jones Hurricane.

We were so despondent after missing Grace Jones’ show at Hammerstein this past Thursday that we put her new LP, Hurricane, on repeat and locked ourselves in our tiny apartments for the entire weekend. As time flew by we realized her first record in nearly 20 years is everything a rabid Grace Jones fan could hope for. Our fingers will remain crossed in hopes that she will come back to NY once the record is actually out. Until then we will continue watching the slew of videos that immediately went up on youtube last Friday. Read on
GIRLS MODEL COOGI SWEATERS FOR SUMMER.

We just got back from the Capitol Hill Block Party in Seattle, which while full of many amazing moments – The Gossip covering Aaliyaah being one of them – had none quite as sparklingly impressive as those provided by SF band, GIRLS. Their thoroughly churned pot of Teenage Fanclubbery, 60s pop, lush harmonies, and grinding feedback left a crowd of 300 slackjawed for their first Seattle show. Check out their tunes HERE and cross your fingers for their shimmering reverb, red high heels, coogi sweaters, and awkward onstage banter to visit your town soon because their record will not be hitting the internetz for at least 4 more months.
KINGDOM TAKES BANJEE OUT OF BROOKLYN!!!

We’ve written about Kingdom before but had to throw out an additional wake up poke before his debut single gets a release on our record label familia, Fool’s Gold. Nick Catchdubs and A Trak really hit the tip of the iceberg with this single and we can only hope to hear much more Banjee Gurl madness before the end of summer. Could House of Ladosha be next??
DIE VERBOTEN MAKES WHITE HOT IBIZA MIND SAND.
A collaboration between Soulwax, Fergadelic, and Riton has yielded the audio/visual/galactic space project that is: DIE VERBOTEN, a krautrock influenced musical experience that comes with some pretty complex record sleeve origami created by Fergadelic. A DVD will be released at a later date but for now you can order up some heavy vinyl, wear your kaftan, and head to the white hot Ibiza sand of your mind. Read on
Lil B Flips Out, Starts 100 Myspace Music Pages.

According to one of Lil B’s 100 myspace pages, he’s in Beverly Hills “working”; i.e. lacing syrupy choruses over Air France and M83 samples while he freestyles for 6 minutes intervals in between base hits. Some of it is loosely focused and a lot of it us ….uh….less so. But from what we hear on the internets, the Pack is dunner then done and Lil B is just gonna keep maxing out his song playlists and adding as many myspace music pages as possible til he gets rich. And why not?? There is no shortage of girls taking naked cell phone pics of themselves while writing Lil B all over their spray tanned bodies.
Volume 09: Paul Devro
If you are a one legged zombie dragging yourself through the jungle with a boombox strapped to your back, trying to get to the next latin oldies party at the bottom of a waterfall, then this mix is for you. Paul has been a dear friend of WMIG for a long time and we have too many stories involving werewolf masks, rabbit tacos, Andy Milonakis, breaking into pools at 5am, and late checkouts to fit into this post, so we’ll let the zombie anthem speak for itself. Little bit of Salem, little bit of Kelis, little bit of Mad Decent faves, Major Lazer; it’s all here just in time to sweat it out for summer! Read on
Thomas Bangalter Dances About Art.

The latest issue of ‘whitewall’ magazine features an exclusive interview with Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter. Apart from Daft Punk interviews being generally uncommon, this one’s fairly unique in that it steers clear of the more conventional topics of DP related conversation, and more towards Bangalter’s sensibilities and influences when it comes to Daft Punk as an all medium encompassing work of “art”.
