Shilo Presents: Pretty Titty

Download and Listen to Shilo Presents: We Make It Good Mix Series, Vol.01

Introducing Pretty Titty

This mix is a little bit of an experiment. Some club stuff a la T2, Sinden, Fake Blood and some weird meandering passages into crazy town with psychedelic baile funk from Sany Pitbull, “trippy” sound effect samples, Hindi film soundtracks and cool drum loops. I threw on a couple classic house references for good measure and WHOOP! there you go! A mix for your iPod, iPhone, workweek, weekend, workout, or jog to the club. Also, notice the awesome artwork provided by Shilo that is attached to the MP3. It will pop up when played in iTunes or on an iPod. Yoller!

Track listing
1. KARM Soundtrack : R.D. Burman

I was just up in Vancouver last weekend and had a random adventure with my friend Paul who just returned from India and coincidentally has just moved into this awesome Indian neighborhood in the ‘Couv. I was up there for a couple days eating pakoras, buying bootleg CDRs, DVDs, and crazy old soundtracks to Hindi films which I chopped up and sprankled throughout this mix. It was pretty fantabulous.

2. Fever (Sinden Remix) : La Luna

This is one of my favorite instrumentals by far. I have no idea what the original sounds like but I imagine Sinden can take credit for everything except the vocals.

4. Shake It to the Ground / South Rakka’s Chinkuzi Riddim: Blaqstarr feat. Rye Rye

Rye Rye! She is hopefully gonna put out some crazy tracks this year. She just turned 17 and has already toured the world with M.I.A. and hands down has the best dance moves on youtube. “Check it out”:http://youtube.com/watch?v=fHAigWTZioI

5. Spastik (Dubfire Rework) : Plastikman

Blaqstarr played this when he djed my party in Seattle, grabbed the mic and started singing in his crazy Sly Stone meets Lil Wayne in a gallon of cough syrup drawl. People lost it! One of the weirdest moments ever.

6. Archangel (Boy 8 Bit remix) : Burial

Burial made one of my favorite albums this past year. Really simple treatment by Boy 8 Bit, who just beefed up the drums. Ray J definitely gets some hipster cred for not only making Kim Kardashian famous but also for winding up as a vocal sample on a dubstep record made by a pasty white dood in the UK. You did it!

7. Funk Alemao : Sany Pitbull

Some of the craziest music I have ever heard. Sany Pitbull has been djing and producing baile funk for over 20 years but his new stuff is soooooooo beyond what would commonly be perceived as baile. It sounds like if Afrika Bambatta crashed his spaceship into the Brazilian rainforest. Bizarre-o.

8. Cut Dem Off : Ricky Blaze

Some people (like my music nerd friends) hate this song. Some people (like my super hot wife) love this song.

9: Heartbroken feat. Jodie Aysha : T2

This is the Niche, Bassline House, UK club anthem of last year. So goood still and another song that makes ladies happy.

10: Creator : Santogold

Santi killed it at the Fader Fort this year in Austin with awesome tunes and ill backup dancers who are like a cross between Public Enemy’s Bomb Squad and Rosie Perez in the opening credits of Do The Right Thing. Can’t wait to hear an album finally come out!

INTERMISSION

Weird noises, loops from the aforementioned hindi soundtrack, drum machine loop by Panico, dubbed out sample of some Angolan kid singing.

12: Tribos : Sany Pitbull

More Brazilian space ship music.

13: African Chant / Syclops’ Monkeypuss : Scottie B

It’s amazing that Baltimore’s Scottie B can make a song that fits so perfectly between these two songs. Also, had to give a little head nod to Maurice Fulton by including the Syclop’s sample.

14: Balanca Mais Nao Para : MC Buiu

Some of that newer samba based baile stuff which already has a hundred youtube videos of people dancing in their baile funked bedrooms and in the street and in the club. Cool stuff and really interesting how much more complex brazilian club stuff is getting with dudes like Sany Pitbull and others getting so weird.

15: Let’s Buy Happiness : Boys Noize

One of many amazing songs from this guy.

16: Niggaz Fightin’ : Scottie B

I love to do this blend in prime time club land. Probably the closest I’ll ever get to a climactic Black Sheep into Momma Said Knock You Out mix.

17: Naive Song : Mirwais

The rest of this song cans it but I can’t stop loving that acoustic guitar part and how it really makes no sense either being in the original song or in my mix. You crazy for this random acoustic musical digression!

18: Mad Again (Fake Blood Remix): South Rakkas

This is my summer anthem! I promise to break into a pool, shotgun cans of beer, set off car alarms, tie my shoe laces together, cook breakfast: all either seperately or together while listening to this song over and over again. Fake Blood is getting some serious internet cudos for this. So epic.

19: Work That Motherfucker : Steve Poindexter

Classic house track predating a lot of ghetto house stuff and baltimore club tracks.

20: Day N’ Nite (Crookers Remix) : Kid Cudi

This is one of my favorite “pop” songs from last year. This song needs a video for sure.

21: Golden Skans (Erol Alkan’s Ekstra Spektral Dub) : Klaxons

Erol Alkan is a genius. Unarguable fact.
