Mix Series
Volume 11: Salem
Pink socks, a dirty mattress, wallpaper peeling off the walls, empty cough syrup bottles, and soiled wall to wall carpeting all come to mind after repeated listens to this new Salem mix. It’s either the perfect accompaniment to the fall/winter blues or soundtrack to scrawling your name on your bedroom wall in blood, it’s up to you.
Volume 10: Morgan Geist
Morgan Geist – of Metro Area / Environ / Unclassics fame – dug deep into the recesses of what must be a record collection the size of a mountain to weave together this dustily beautified journey through abandoned early 80s NY. Geist’s selection of late 70s / early 80s electronic tracks exquisitely captures a moment in time when the prevailing disco sheen hanging hazily over the city was being overtaken by the throbbing pulse of murder, drugs, and dirt that ran a heavy current underneath.
Volume 09: Paul Devro
If you are a one legged zombie dragging yourself through the jungle with a boombox strapped to your back, trying to get to the next latin oldies party at the bottom of a waterfall, then this mix is for you. Paul has been a dear friend of WMIG for a long time and we have too many stories involving werewolf masks, rabbit tacos….
Volume 08: Free Blood
In the spirit of our occasional “non-dj” twist on the WMIG mix series, our buddy John from Brooklyn’s FREE BLOOD was kind enough to make us this awesome mixtape of influences, inspirations, and springtime newyorkness.
Volume 07: Crookers
Like a smoking hot laser beam shooting straight from the moon to your pasta bowl, DJ duo Crookers mixed up their patent brand of italian space travel with some classic hits from their mom’s record collection and crafted installment number 7 of the We Make It Good Mix series. 40 minutes of full-on gnarlesberger dubstep, italo pop and the best of deee best in dancey.

TRANSCENDENTAL FINNISH ART FASHION.
Gilles et Dada is a philosophical conundrum, trapped in a pandora’s box, wrapped with pretty knits and fancy silks. The doctrine of this nonsense art fashion house is a bit of a riddle for all the non-sophisticated Finnish kids, but the look book for the Walking Through Light collection might paint a better picture of this mantra stumper. Make the jump for transcendental looks.
MYSTIC ART LACED WITH HALLUCINOGENS.
How does this picture recipe sound? One cup of Jungle cat, a sprinkle of kama sutra, a dash of Hinduistic spirituality, a quick stir around and BOOM! You’ve got a Kelsey Brookes medley of art-cum-bestiality. These colorful paintings are like bits of skittles, laced with PCP, exploding out of a half-mortal/ half-feline, after an intense session of Bikram yoga. We can’t guess what the metaphorical meaning of this banshee art could imply, but the shit looks cool. Make the jump for more of Brookes’ mystical stuff.
VISUAL TALK WITH ALEXANDROS VASMOULAKIS.
Alexandros Vasmoulakis’s reason for being is to communicate (so he states on his website) and communicate he does, with elaborate doe-eyed behemoth beings gracing the buildings in Greece. The size and scope of these pieces are spectacular and speak in epic visual proportions. For examples of his grandiose lessons in conveying a perceptual message, click “read on” for more.
